History of our A1200 brand

Since 2004, AmigaKit has developed and supplied products for the Amiga community, including adapters, cables, computer cases, joysticks and memory expansions. Over time, that work has grown to include our own computer systems. The A600 and A1200 branding has appeared on many of these products, providing a familiar identity for our customers.

In 2018, it was considered prudent to protect the considerable investment, time and efforts that we had poured into present and work-in-progress products. We observed that the A600 and A1200 had not been registered as trademark for computers and video games equipment in either the United Kingdom or other countries we had significant customer bases in. We did not want a third party registering the mark before us diminishing the brand we had been building. In the United Kingdom we registered the A1200 word mark, then in Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands we registered our A1200 logo. Spain and Australia followed with the A1200 logo becoming protected there too.

Over the years our unique community has proved to be a hot bed of innovation and ideas.

With a wide breadth of trademarks registered around the world we started a community licence scheme so others with great concepts for new products could also use the A1200 logo.

Latterly our most complex projects were the A600GS, the A1200NG and the A1200GS. These new hardware platforms combined a decade worth of software development brought together in AmiBench. It involved working with many community developers over many years to build the software environment that our customers told us they wanted. After so much hard work and team effort it was satisfying to finally announce the A1200 NG on 23 December 2024. The official website A1200.com started to take pre-orders.

Once again to protect our investment, we registered the A1200 NG name across the European Union and applied for it in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It became registered in Ireland along side the other A1200 mark and A1200 logo we have there.

In 2026 we have been extending our range of gaming products. The first to be released was the new Arcade Evolution A1200 joystick. Following on there will be a new Games System, A1200GS. This builds on from the foundation set by the A600GS. Amiwest 2026 in Sacramento, California was used as the show to reveal these two new products to the community.

Our commitment remains the same: to develop exciting new hardware and software, support our customers and work with others who want to contribute to the community. Our A1200 products and community licence scheme are part of that ongoing work. We are proud of what our small team and the developers we work with have achieved, and we look forward to sharing the next chapter with you.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way.
